Junior Year Reality

Junior Year Doesn’t Wait for Anyone

SAT prep. Three AP classes. Pre-calculus. College essays starting. Here’s where most 11th graders hit a wall — all at the same time.

💪

SAT pressure is real — and it’s building

Dates are circled on the calendar. Practice scores aren’t where they need to be. And your child isn’t sure what to work on first. For focused SAT and ACT prep, a plan matters.

📚

AP courses demand more than class time

Three or four AP classes at once. Every grade counts toward the May exam — and stays on the transcript for college applications. There’s no catching up later.

📑

Pre-calculus exposes every old gap

If anything was shaky in algebra II, pre-calc finds it fast. Trigonometry doesn’t slow down while your child tries to remember what they missed a year ago.

✍️

College essays start now, not senior year

Common App prompts, supplementals, personal statements — the drafting starts in junior year. Waiting until fall of 12th grade puts your child behind before they’ve even started.

Junior year doesn’t pause. The earlier your child has support, the more ground they can cover before May.

How It Works

Three Steps to Junior Year Support

From your first call to a consistent weekly routine — it’s straightforward.

Step 01
📋

Free Assessment

We talk through your child’s current courses, their test prep timeline, and where the biggest friction points are right now. No commitment required.

Step 02
🤝

Matched Tutor or Pair

Depending on your child’s subject mix, we match them with one dedicated tutor — or a matched pair, one for language arts and one for STEM. Every individual session is always 1-on-1.

Step 03
📅

Weekly 1-on-1 Sessions

Same tutor or same pair, same schedule, every week. Sessions stay aligned to school curriculum, AP prep, and SAT or ACT work — all running in parallel.

What Junior Year Sessions Actually Look Like

Every session is built around your child’s actual class right now — not a generic curriculum. If pre-calculus needs an algebra foundation first, we go there. Our algebra tutoring approach carries right through into higher-level math.

Starts where your child actually is

Not where the textbook assumes they should be. We find the real starting point first.

Aligned to current class materials and AP pacing

Tutors work from your child’s syllabus, not a standalone curriculum. What’s coming up next week gets priority.

SAT or ACT prep runs on its own track

Test prep and coursework are tracked separately — each gets the attention it needs without one crowding out the other.

Same faces, every session

One tutor or a matched pair — the same people show up every week. No new person to catch up with, no starting over.

Parents stay in the loop

After each session, you get a brief update on what was covered and what’s the focus for next time.

Why Junior Year Matters

Junior Year Shapes Everything That Comes Next

Colleges pay the most attention to junior year. The GPA earned this year, the SAT or ACT score your child submits, and the AP results from May — these are the numbers that show up on every college application. When your child gets the right support now, it shows up where it counts most.

📊

11th Grade GPA

This is the last full-year GPA colleges see when they review applications. It carries more weight than any other single year on the transcript.

🎯

SAT or ACT Score

Most of the test attempts that end up on applications happen this year. Your child has time to prepare well — but that window is shorter than it feels right now.

📝

AP Exam Results

May AP exams affect college credit, advanced placement, and scholarship eligibility. A prepared student walks into that exam room with a real advantage.

What Parents Say

Junior Year Families

From SAT prep to AP coursework to college essays — what it looked like for families who started in 11th grade.

★★★★★

Our daughter was completely overwhelmed — SAT prep, AP Chemistry, and regular coursework all at once. Her tutors helped her figure out where to focus each week. The same faces every session made a bigger difference than I expected.

★★★★★

AP US History and pre-calculus in the same semester. He needed help with both, and the pair we were matched with covered it perfectly. Every session was still 1-on-1. I didn’t expect that structure to work as well as it did.

★★★★★

I had no idea college essay work starts in 11th grade. His tutor helped him find a real angle and worked through drafts with him. By the time senior year started, the heavy lifting was already done.

FAQ

Questions About 11th Grade Tutoring

Everything parents ask before getting started — answered.

What subjects do you cover for 11th grade students?
We cover pre-calculus, trigonometry, statistics, AP courses (English Language, US History, World History, Chemistry, Biology, Physics 1 & 2, Statistics, Calculus AB, Psychology, and more), SAT prep, ACT prep, chemistry, physics, and college essay writing. If your child’s course isn’t listed here, ask us — we likely have a tutor for it.
Do you help with SAT prep?
Yes. SAT prep is one of the most common reasons junior-year families come to us. Sessions focus on the specific sections where your child needs the most work — math, reading and writing, or both — and build toward the actual test dates on your child’s calendar.
Do you help with ACT prep?
Yes. We offer dedicated ACT prep for 11th graders. Sessions target the sections most relevant to your child’s score goals and work through the timing, question types, and pacing strategies that make the biggest difference.
Can a tutor help with AP courses?
Yes. We tutor a wide range of AP courses. Sessions align to your child’s current unit, upcoming in-class assessments, and the AP exam schedule in May. We don’t follow a generic AP prep curriculum — we follow what your child’s teacher is covering right now.
What AP subjects do you tutor?
AP English Language and Composition, AP US History, AP World History, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics 1 and 2, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, and AP US Government, among others. If your child is taking an AP course that isn’t listed, reach out — the list grows regularly.
Will my child have one tutor or two?
It depends on which subjects your child needs support in. For 11th graders, we often match one dedicated tutor — or a matched pair, one for language arts and one for STEM — depending on the subject mix. Either way, every individual session is always 1-on-1. Your child is never in a group session.
How does the tutor matching process work?
It starts with a free assessment. We look at your child’s current courses, their SAT or ACT timeline, and where the biggest friction points are. Then we match them with the right tutor — or the right pair — and build a weekly schedule from there before the first paid session.
Do tutors follow my child’s school and AP curriculum?
Yes. Tutors work directly from your child’s class materials, their textbook, and the AP course pacing guide. Sessions stay aligned to what’s being taught in school right now — not a separate curriculum that may or may not line up with class.
When should we start SAT or ACT prep in junior year?
The earlier in junior year, the better. Starting in September or October gives your child time to work through practice tests methodically, identify weaknesses, and still have windows to retest if needed. We can start at any point during the year — but more lead time means more room to work.
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 60 minutes. Some families opt for 90-minute sessions during high-stakes prep periods — the weeks leading up to the SAT or before AP exam season in May. We’ll recommend a session length based on your child’s workload and what they need to cover.
How often should a junior meet with their tutor?
Most 11th graders meet once or twice a week. During SAT prep or leading into AP exam season, some families add a third session temporarily. We build the schedule around your child’s workload and your family’s availability — not a rigid preset plan.
Do you help with pre-calculus and trigonometry?
Yes. Pre-calculus and trigonometry are two of the most common subjects we work on with 11th graders. If there are gaps from algebra II, we address those first so the new material makes sense instead of piling confusion on confusion.
Can you help with 11th grade chemistry or physics?
Yes. We tutor both chemistry and physics at the honors and AP level — conceptual understanding, problem-solving, lab report preparation, and exam prep. If your child is in AP Chemistry or AP Physics, we can align sessions directly to that course.
Do you help with college essay writing?
Yes. Junior year is the right time to start. We help students brainstorm topics, find a genuine angle, work through drafts, and develop their own voice. By the time senior year starts, the heavy lifting is already done — which makes fall of 12th grade much less stressful.
Is online tutoring effective for high school students?
Yes. Online tutoring works especially well for high school students who need scheduling flexibility around sports, activities, and part-time jobs. Tutors use shared digital tools — whiteboards, document annotation, problem walkthroughs — to work through material in real time, exactly as they would in person.
How is Camp Homework different from a tutoring center?
Every Camp Homework session is 1-on-1 — your child never shares a session with another student. They work with the same tutor or the same pair every week, not whoever is available that day. There are no group classes, no rotating staff, and no generic curriculum.
What if my child needs help in both STEM and English?
That’s very common in junior year. Depending on the subjects, we may match your child with one tutor who covers both, or a matched pair — one for language arts and one for STEM. Either way, every individual session is still 1-on-1. Your child always has full attention, never split.
How much does 11th grade tutoring cost?
Tutoring starts at $149 per month. The exact plan depends on how many sessions per week and which subjects your child needs. We’ll walk through all the options during the free assessment and give you a clear plan before you commit to anything.
What if my child’s tutor isn’t a good fit?
Tell us and we’ll re-match. A tutor your child is comfortable with is more effective than one they’re not. We take re-matching seriously and don’t make it a hassle. Your child’s comfort with their tutor matters to us.
