Summer Learning

Summer tutoring that keeps skills sharp — without ruining summer

Ten weeks off is long enough for hard-won skills to fade. One or two relaxed 1-on-1 sessions a week keeps your child's reading and math warm — and still leaves the whole day for the pool.

The summer slide is real — and September comes fast

Last year's homework battles don't disappear over the break. They just wait for a new classroom, a new teacher, and harder material.

🔄

Skills fade over break

Math facts and reading stamina that took all year to build start slipping after a few untouched weeks — and fall becomes review instead of progress.

📚

"I hate reading"

A child who struggled all year isn't going to pick up a book in July on their own. The gap doesn't close by itself — it widens quietly.

😢

Last year was rough

Report cards told the story. You know your child needs help before next year — you just don't want to spend all summer fighting about worksheets.

September sneaks up

June feels endless — then suddenly it's back-to-school night and nothing got done. Every August we hear the same thing: "I wish we'd started sooner."

Summer isn't the problem. It's the biggest opportunity of the year — if you use even a little of it.

Why summer works

The best window all year to catch up — or get ahead

During the school year, tutoring competes with homework, tests, practices, and exhaustion. In summer, all of that is gone. It's the one time your child can work on the actual gaps — calmly, without a deadline breathing down their neck.

No homework competing for energy

Sessions target root gaps — the shaky multiplication facts, the phonics holes — instead of racing to finish tonight's assignment.

Room to preview next year

Students who are already solid can get a head start — fractions before 4th grade, pre-algebra before middle school, essay skills before high school.

A tutor who's ready for September

Start now and your child walks into the school year with a tutor who already knows them — ready for real homework help from week one.

One tutor, multiple subjects. Your child's tutor can cover math and reading in the same summer session — no shuffling between specialists.
What we cover

Pick a focus — or mix it up

Every summer plan is built around your child. Most families focus on one or two of these:

That's what the free assessment is for. We'll pinpoint where your child stands in
online math tutoring
topics, reading, or both — then recommend a summer focus. Wondering if math is worth it? Read

The plan

A summer plan built around your child — not a packet

No generic workbooks. No one-size-fits-all curriculum. Three steps:

STEP 01

Free assessment

We find out exactly where your child is — what's solid, what's shaky, and what's missing. It takes one conversation, and it's free.

STEP 02

Match with one tutor

Your child gets one consistent tutor for the whole summer. Same face every session — trust builds, and so does momentum.

STEP 03

Light weekly sessions

1–2 private sessions a week, scheduled around camps and trips. You get regular updates, so you always know what's happening.

Summer stays summer

Done by 10am. At the pool by 10:15.

The fastest way to make a kid hate learning is to turn July into school. So we don't. Summer sessions are short, consistent, and scheduled around your family's life — not the other way around.

1–2 sessions a week is plenty

Consistency beats intensity. A little focused work every week keeps skills warm without stealing the summer.

Travel-friendly — sessions go where you go

Online sessions work from the lake house, grandma's, or the hotel. Vacation week? We reschedule. No stress, no lost money.

Never a punishment

Sessions are 1-on-1, patient, and pitched at your child's level — so they end with a win, not a fight at the kitchen table.

Why 1-on-1

Summer camps and apps are fine. They're just not tutoring.

Plenty of summer options keep kids busy. Very few actually close the specific gaps your child has.

🏠

Academic day camps

Group-based and generic. One teacher, fifteen kids, one pace. Great for social time — but your child's specific gaps never get individual attention.

📱

Learning apps

Fun for a week, abandoned by July. No accountability, no human noticing when your child is guessing instead of understanding.

🌟

1-on-1 with a real tutor

Every session adapts to your child in real time. Stuck? Slow down. Flying? Level up. That's what always-private sessions make possible.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about summer tutoring

Is summer tutoring really necessary, or can my child just take the summer off?

Downtime matters — kids need it. But skills that go completely untouched for 10 weeks tend to fade, and September starts with review instead of new material. One or two light sessions a week keeps skills warm while leaving plenty of room for a real summer.

How many sessions per week do you recommend over the summer?

For most students, 1–2 sessions per week is the sweet spot. It's enough to keep momentum without making summer feel like school. Students working to close bigger gaps sometimes do more, and we'll recommend a cadence after the free assessment.

What is the summer slide, and does it affect every child?

The summer slide is the loss of academic skills over the long break — most noticeable in math facts and reading stamina. It doesn't hit every child the same way, but students who already found a subject hard during the year tend to feel it most in the fall.

What grades do you work with over the summer?

All grades, K–12. Kindergarteners working on letters and sounds, elementary students on reading and math foundations, middle schoolers on pre-algebra, and high schoolers getting ready for the next course.

Are summer sessions 1-on-1 or in a group?

Always 1-on-1. Every session is private — just your child and their tutor. No group classes, ever. That's true year-round at Camp Homework, not just in summer.

How long is each tutoring session?

Sessions are sized to the student. Younger kids do best with shorter, focused sessions; older students can go longer. We'll recommend a length during the free assessment based on your child's age and attention span.

What subjects can my child work on this summer?

Reading, math, writing, and general skill-building for the next grade. One tutor can cover more than one subject in the same session — no shuffling between specialists.

Can my child use the summer to get ahead instead of catching up?

Absolutely. Summer is a great time to preview next year's material — like getting comfortable with fractions before 4th grade or pre-algebra before middle school. Walking in on day one already familiar with the material is a huge confidence boost.

What if we travel during the summer?

Sessions are online, so they travel with you — all your child needs is a device and Wi-Fi. If a week just doesn't work, we reschedule. Summer plans come first; tutoring flexes around them.

Will my child have the same tutor all summer?

That's the goal, yes. We match your child with one tutor and keep that pairing consistent so trust and momentum build week over week.

How do you figure out what my child should work on?

Every student starts with a free assessment. We look at where your child is right now — what's solid, what's shaky, what's missing — and build the summer plan around those specific gaps instead of a generic packet.

How will I know what's happening in each session?

You'll get regular updates from your child's tutor covering what they worked on, where progress is happening, and what's coming next. No guessing, no chasing anyone down for information.

My child had a rough school year — where do we start?

Start with the free assessment. A hard year usually comes down to a few specific gaps, and summer — with no homework and no test on Friday — is the calmest possible time to close them. Many families tell us their child relaxes once the pressure of the school year is off.

My child says they hate reading (or math). Will they fight this?

"I hate it" almost always means "it's hard and embarrassing." 1-on-1 changes that — no classmates watching, no falling behind the group, just a patient tutor meeting them where they are. If reading is the battle, our
reading tutoring
pages cover how we approach reluctant readers.

How much does summer tutoring cost?

Memberships start at $149 per month. Every plan includes private 1-on-1 sessions, a personalized plan, and parent updates. Book a free assessment and we'll recommend the plan that fits your child's summer goals.

Is there a long-term contract or summer commitment?

No long-term contract. Memberships are month to month, so you can do just the summer, or keep going into the school year if it's working — most families do.

When should we start summer tutoring?

The earlier in the break, the better — it spreads the work out and keeps each week light. That said, even starting in late July leaves time to shake off the rust before school starts.

Can we continue with the same tutor into the school year?

Yes — and it's one of the best reasons to start in summer. Your child walks into September with a tutor who already knows exactly where they are. Getting ready for fall? Grab our
back-to-school tutoring checklist
.

What does my child need for online sessions?

A laptop, tablet, or desktop with a camera and a decent internet connection. That's it. Sessions work from the kitchen table, the porch, or grandma's house.

Do you guarantee grades will improve?

No — and we'd be wary of anyone who does. Every child is different. What we do promise: private 1-on-1 sessions every time, a plan built around your child's actual gaps, and regular updates so you always know where things stand.
